Prayers for Lent

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, 0 God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.

Lord, we pray that during this time of Lent You will work in our hearts to purify our attitudes and we ask You to bring conviction to us where we are justifying our feelings that are not of You. We determine to strengthen ourselves in you so that we may be steadfast in our convictions of Your perfect will and purpose in our lives. Amen

(Mat 4:1) THEN JESUS was led (guided) by the [Holy] Spirit into the wilderness (desert) to be tempted (tested and tried) by the devil.

Lord, when temptations come, we ask for strength to overcome. Thank You that You have given us victory over all the schemes of the enemy and You have provided a way for us to be overcomers in all aspects of life. God of power and might, help me as I resist [insert temptation to be avoided, such as a cigarette when one has given them up for Lent]. Remind me that I gave this up not for me, but out of glory to You. Be with me in this and all temptations, as You were with Jesus in the desert. Amen

(John 12:36) While you have the Light, believe in the Light [have faith in it, hold to it, rely on it], that you may become sons of the Light and be filled with Light. Jesus said these things, and then He went away and hid Himself from them [was lost to their view].

Almighty Father, You have called us to walk by the light of Christ, Your Son, and to trust in His wisdom. During Lent, we submit ourselves to Him completely and strive to believe in Him with all our heart. With renewed commitment to Jesus, we endeavour to continue His work here on earth in helping to build Your Kingdom so that all may benefit from the message of salvation. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
