What It's All About

Ho, ho oh! It's me again. The Reverend Cedric Parsons. And it's that special time of year, when old men like me get jobs dressed in red, with fake white beards, and have keep saying Ho, ho, ho! We have more time when we are retired! I don't who said that but it seems to me that especially at this time of year I get even busier than usual, mind you, if you have time to spare, you can watch endless back to back Christmas films on the TV channels! Oh, ho, oh! And it's all about the man dressed in Red! Oh, ho, oh! Or a Christmas romance. Now don't get me wrong I love to sit with my feet up in the afternoon with a cup of Earl Grey tea, a chocolate biscuit and sat in comfy chair and watch a film about the Christmas period and people falling love, people being nice to each other, giving each other presents all wrapped so nicely, wearing those Christmas jumpers, or all wrapped up and singing in that fake snow around the lighting up of the festive Christmas tree. Oh, ho, oh! well they are feel good films, but the ones that really get up my nose are those who think this time of year is just for pretty lights and happy holidays, for many if we take the reality, and not what the films the scriptwriters love to portray, is anything but happy, for some it's a very hard time of year. And my heart goes out to those with my prayers. I haven't seen one film yet this year that's actually mentioned Jesus, the Baby, the wise men or the shepherds, I saw one with an angel in it, but no mention of the wonderful proclamation, Oh, oh, oh!

"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, do not be afraid, I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a saviour has been born to you, he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you, you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel. Praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests."

Ho, ho, HO! A saviour born to us, to you and me, so why not come to a church Carol service, sing Carols and hear readings that tell the real true love story of this Christmas time, and put the Christ back into your Christmas celebrations its HO!HO!HO! And not Oh, oh, oh!! It really is a wonderful time of the year, even in the cold and the snow with real snowflakes falling. Bless you all and a Happy Christmas to you all.
