Too Busy To Pray...

Hi Folks, I'm the Reverend Cedric Parsons, (retired! Not!!)

Dreadfully sorry this letter is little late. You see I'm retired, you would think I have plenty of time on my hands, OH I wish!! But maybe that should be pray not wish! The thing is friends I have been really, really busy, and time has just rushed on by without me noticing it. Then I was reminded of a couple of my heroes' of faith, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Mother Teresa. It was reported that Archbishop Tutu got up really early to pray for several hours before the start of the day's work, then no matter what he was doing throughout the day he would pause to pray about the things he was involved with. Mother Teresa wrote this "If you're too busy to pray then you are too busy" and I guess that has been my problem these past few weeks, I have been too busy to pray. I wish I had more time to do all I had to do, I mean pray, not wish, but I am too busy. Then a dear friend reminded me of another quote about prayer on the same lines as Mother Teresa's a man called Mike Bickle wrote"If you are too busy for prayer then you are too busy for a relationship with God" then I stopped to think about my relationship with my saviour Jesus, and realised that in being too busy I had neglected my relationship with him. So I stopped what I was doing and prayed.

What about you? Are you too busy to pray? Are you too busy to build your relationship with the God's only Son Jesus Christ? And not just praying, what about reading God's word for the day, I usually do "Our Daily bread." And when I read this morning it might well have been written just for me, have you noticed that when you stop praying God-incidences stop too! And we try to get everything done in our strength and given my age I don't have as much as I used to have! And let's be honest we need every bit of help we can get no matter our age. I'm not sure about getting up before the Cock crows to pray, but I can find time in my busy day to pray about the issues I face, what about you? Give it try and see the difference it makes knowing that the God who sees and knows all about you, is giving you strength and grace for each new day. Then I remembered a favourite old hymn. If you know the tune perhaps you can sing to yourself as a prayer, if not just read it.

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear

What a privilege to carry every-thing to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear.

All because we do not carry every-thing to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged: take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrow share?

Jesus knows our every weakness, take it to the Lord prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Saviour still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer!

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In His arms He'll take and shield thee, thou wilt find a solace there.
