How Are You Dressed

Hi Folks, I'm the Reverend Cedric Parsons, (retired! Not!!)

I have been babysitting my two grandchildren. So I am a little worn out, and this was just getting them dressed! Billy, well that was pretty easy to decide what he was wearing, because I made that choice for him, he would be just as happy to run around naked! Actually getting his clothes on him that is another story and part of the reason that I am worn out! Wriggling about then running off, half dressed! Chasing him around and finally he's dressed, then he's not! Billy's taken his socks off! And a real struggle to get them on again, Phew! The other reason is Clare, she can get dressed herself now, and if not pushed would stay in her pyjamas, but what will she wear, I make suggestions but that doesn't work, what does an old Granddad know? (Or a retired old Pastor) So we have a discussion. This colour doesn't go with that colour, and I don't want shorts on I want a dress, then a change of mind its leggings and a tee-shirt, but what colour and what picture will have on it? A two minute job turns into 30 minutes, and then I am really worn out! And we have the rest of the day to get through that can be a battle!

And this set me thinking, how we get dressed when we get up each day, I know it's getting more difficult to put on my socks as I am not as flexible as I used to be. But I am not just talking about getting physically dressed, but spiritually dressed, and I guess there are many folk who are just not properly dressed. Either they are too busy or they forget they need to be dressed for what each day will bring, and that may not just be a battle with the Grandchildren to get them dressed, but something far more serious. As the scripture says.

"Finally be strong in the Lord and in in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything to stand, stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, in addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and with the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God." Eph 6:10-17

And if you are not too busy to pray then pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kind of prayers and requests.

Some folk are like little Billy letting the world and its morals dress us, and yes we might squirm around and resists a little but in the end we are dressed for the for world, and then there are others like Clare who decide what they are wearing, who know their own mind, though that might not always be properly dressed for the occasion swayed by the message of the secular world, and are only partially dressed. You see some Christians are like this sadly! They neglect the truth and fact that we are daily in a battle, a spiritual one. And so I am strongly recommending that we take serious note of what the bible says, take a little extra time each morning as you put on your physical clothes, but please take time to read the word for the day, or have a bible reading programme and put on the full armour of God. And please note it's the full armour.

But I guess I am going to be worn out, discussing like with Clare all the different options for the day's attire. There should no such thing as the naked Christian or one still in their pyjamas!! Can I ask are you properly dressed for what God has in store for you each and every day, not just Sunday?
