Allow Me To Introduce Myself

Hi Folks, let me introduce myself, I'm the Reverend Cedric Parsons, (retired) and wheeled in on occasions they have need of me, its what happens at this time of year to old Fogies with a functioning brain, (even if the legs don't work so good, and we get jobs like this, as you can see I am in disguise!! Guess who? And I have been asked to write a blog, or a few words. Well here goes. (This is my first)

"Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat"! and so am I, or will be by the time the Christmas celebrations are over, mince pies! And the 12 days of turkey!, and the only slimmer thing around here is my bank balance!, all those cards sent at exorbitant cost, I send a card and you send one Back! And all those presents!, of which many will find their way on to Kijijior the likes after the New year. Christmas Humbug! You say, and for those who want to take the Christ out of Christmas, well you can have a Happy Holiday! And light up the cold and dark nights with bright lights and Santa Claus, go and have family parties and hangovers! Can you hear that word again. Bah Humbug!

Old scrooge discovered the real meaning of Christmas and the real Christmas Spirit, and I watch it every year, to remind me to beware of not becoming like his Mate Jacob Marley, which it seems to me this is the way of the secular and materialistic world today. So which one is like you? And will you be this Christmas, Marley or Scrooge? before the visits of the Ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. For Me it's the reformed, renewed, person of Scrooge, and remembering to invite Jesus Christ to my celebrations, after all isn't that the real reason for the season to be jolly? And what's the point of a celebration without the guest of honour? Happy Christmas to you all.

Dear Cedric,
You really have got the wind under your tail this time! You are quite a passionate parson (get it … Rev. Cedric Parsons, a passionate parson; oh, never mind).

In all the years we have known each other, and it is a few, you have cared about the true message of Christmas. As we have aged together, many is the dark winter evening we have sat in front of the fire with a cup of cocoa, with that cold English wind and rain lashing the windows, pondering the difference Christ has made to our Christmas celebrations.

We have shared our concern for those for whom this season is just a series of materialistic and financial transactions; buying gifts and handing them over as expressions of love and affection. How fleeting is the gratitude spirit of giving and receiving, as you say; how much stuff ends up on Kijiji. Who needs Boxing Day sales when there is Kijiji!

You and I, and our families, have been blessed by being able to have Christ as part of our Christmas celebrations. God’s free giving of love and peace to a hurting world through his son. Now, there is a gift of love that never gets old and is new every morning. Remember the times we have prayed together for friends and relatives near and far that they, like the reformed Scrooge, may know the true spirit of Christmas?

Keep praying old friend there is much left to be done.
By the way, the hat suits you!
