A Time For All Things

Hi Folks, I'm the Reverend Cedric Parsons, (retired!)

Gosh this month has passed so quickly, and how things change, it's the time of year for change, where did autumn go? And Snow!! Already! Thinking of times of change, a time for everything, it got me thinking, if you heard that loud clanking sound it was probably the cogs in my head turning slowly, and sorry I'm late again. I was thinking about the passage in Ecclesiastes 3: "A time for everything and a season for everything under the sun, A time to be born and a time to die" then a memory came into my mind, an embarrassing one! I was taking a funeral and I had asked everyone to turn off their mobile phones, and I had got to the part in the service where I was reading the passage chosen by the family. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, I had reached verse 7, the second part "A time to be silent and a Time to speak" when my mobile phone went off! I reached into my pocket took out my phone and turned it off but put the phone to my ear and said " A time for the Phone to go off and a time to silence it, a time to listen to God and time to speak to him"!! Then, I pretended to speak to God on behalf of the family, and listened to what God was saying. And relayed that back to the family, they thought it was all part of the talk. In reality I was really embarrassed. And this is what I wanted to write about a time to be silent and a time to speak to God, It's Thanksgiving time, and in all the shops I have been into today I have been wished a happy thanksgiving, nice thank you, but who are we thanking, and for what? Are we thanking God for all we have, the food we eat, the water we drink, and the water with Hops in it! The roofs over our heads, our families and friends, all technology we enjoy, (even when they cause a problem!) do we make time to speak to God? And do we ever take time to listen to him? The season we are in is Thanksgiving, and the change in the weather as winter comes. Can I ask as seasons change, and is there time for everything under the sun? when do you make time for God? When was the last time you prayed to him and gave thanks? Rather than just asking for things, and maybe a trip to church would not hurt either. To give thanks, and to listen. And to change maybe?!

"A time for everything and a season for everything under the sun," (Or Snow!!)

Why not take time to read through the bible passage and read through Ecclesiastes 3: verses 1- to 14 and then to take time to listen and to pray.
